UAE residents, we know that you’ve already started dreaming about your Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday and that you’re just waiting it out to know the exact dates so that you can lock-in your travel plans and start that long-pending vacay shopping. Now, here’s the deal – I’ve got some fantastic news this Monday morning! The folks at the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation have spoken. And we, naturally, are listening with the focus of people calculating leave balances. And guess what – we are in for a long weekend treat this Eid Al Fitr 2026. Read on to know more!
3-Day or 4-Day Weekend For Eid Al Fitr 2026?

So, without beating around the bush, let me cut to the chase.
As always, the exact dates will be revealed by lunar visiblity. But here’s what you can expect:
If the moon decides to make its grand appearance on March 18, or in other words, if the moon is sighted on March 18 which is Ramadan 29, then Eid begins on Thursday, March 19. In this case, holiday runs from:
Thursday, March 19, 2026 → Sunday, March 22, 2026
Back to reality: Monday, March 23, 2026
That’s four days. Four glorious days.
Now, if the moon decides to go on stealth mode on March 18, then we fast one more day, and Eid shifts accordingly. Which means, if the committee doesn’t sight the moon on March 18, then Eid begins on Friday, March 19. In that case, the holiday stretch runs neatly through to Monday, March 23 for the federal sector.
So really, what we’re debating here isn’t whether we’re getting a break.
It’s simply this:
Are we getting two consecutive pre-weekend days off?
Or are the days balanced delicately on either side of the weekend like a perfectly plated dessert?
Either way — and this is the important bit — we can lock in four days of holidays, and that’s sure!
Four days of alarms switched off. And “I’ll reply after Eid.” Oh, and also desserts, the calories of which absolutely do not count.
Rejoice, people!
Let’s Focus On The Holiday Decision Maker – The Moon

Before anyone accuses the moon of freelancing, there are very serious scientific conditions involved. For a sighting to count, the Moon must be:
Born before sunset
At least 12 hours old
Separated from the Sun by six degrees
Visible above the horizon for at least 20 minutes after sunset
No moon has ever been sighted without meeting these thresholds. This is not vibes-based astronomy. Basically, it’s very structured.
Is There Any Chance Of Eid Al Fitr 2026 Holidays Moving From The Weekend In The UAE?
Yup, I saw that coming. Saturdays and Sundays are anyway off, so it’s natural to feel a little covetous about holidays. Now, here’s something that you must know.
The UAE introduced a public holiday law in 2025 allowing certain Islamic holidays to shift if they fall on a weekend.
But.
Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha? Untouchable.
The official wording makes it clear:
With the exception of Eid holidays, the Cabinet may move public holidays to the beginning or end of the week.
Translation:
If Eid falls across the weekend, we do not get bonus weekday replacements.
We may sigh. But we must accept.
The “Nine-Day Holiday” Fantasy For UAE Residents (That Can Be Real)
If four days feels emotionally insufficient (valid), here’s how to upgrade:
Request annual leave from Monday to Wednesday, March 16–18.
That gives you:
Saturday, March 14 → Sunday, March 22
Nine days off.
Or
But if Eid begins on March 20, request for leave from Monday to Thursday, March 16-19
Which means, you’ll get 10 whopping days off!
Suddenly you’re the strategic genius of your department.
Of course, this also depends on your company’s internal leave policy. If sandwiched leaves are a no-no, then refrain from plotting the above!
And The Wait Starts…For Eid Al Fitr 2026
Yes, UAE residents, the countdown has begun already. For the moon… the announcement. And for confirmation that our Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday spreadsheets were not delusional.
