Parents, I hear you. Tables are lovely for a quick glance, but sometimes we just want the cold, hard facts served in a clean, vertical line so we can tick them off like items on a grocery list (or names in a burn book—your choice). To keep us all on our toes, the UAE government has launched a groundbreaking Federal Decree Law on the governance of the National Educational Curriculum, a first-of-its-kind legislative framework – yup, the 3-year UAE School calendar – designed to ensure our schools aren’t just about rote learning, but about molding the “graduate attributes” and values of our little geniuses. Here is the ultimate cheat sheet for your social life, and your sanity, formatted exactly how you like it.

A Little Gossip on the Side (The UAE School Calendar ft Curriclum Chat)

So, this is a first-of-its-kind move (in case like me you were wondering too) where the ministry has released calendars for the next 3 academic years as opposed to one. The unified UAE school calendar is applicable to not just public schools, but private schools as well. One of the key takeaway from a glance at the calendar is that you get to see a break every 6-8 weeks (yay us and our kids!) Furthermore, you’d also notice how the spring break takes inspo from Ramadan and begins roating as the years go by from April first week in 2027 to last week of March in 2029.
Also, apart from the holidays, parents can expect a bit of a shift in the way subjects will be taught. The Ministry is focusing on:
- National Identity & Values: Keeping it local and meaningful.
- Competency-Based Learning: Teaching them how to think, not just what to think.
- Feedback Loops: Schools will be piloting programs and reporting back to the Ministry like eager students themselves.
Additionally, the authorities will be watching the private schools closely (excluding Sharjah, which likes to do its own fabulous thing) to make sure everyone is adhering to these unified dates and the new curriculum standards.
Oh, and in case your kid goes to an Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani curriculum school, then this new academic calendar does not apply to them. Their commencement and conclusion of terms along with vacations will slightly vary.
So, for the rest of you all, the era of “winging it” is officially over, and the era of “highly-organized-future-proofing” has begun.
